Automotive Interior Roof Light Injection Molding Tooling
For automotive manufacturers, the quality and precision of interior parts like roof lights are essential to meet both functional and aesthetic requirements. Huashuo Molding worked with a client to develop a custom injection molding tool for producing interior roof light assemblies made from ABS+PC and AS materials. These parts need to be lightweight, durable, and aesthetically pleasing, making the right mold design and material choice crucial for success.
The project’s goal was simple: provide a cost-effective, high-precision solution that delivers long-lasting quality for mass production, ensuring the automotive components are both efficient and durable.
Our Approach
To achieve the best results, we approached this project step-by-step, from mold design to production. Here’s how we did it:
- Tailored Mold Design
We began by reviewing the customer’s drawings and sample parts to understand their exact requirements. This is what we focused on:- Material Selection: ABS+PC and AS were chosen for their balance of strength, heat resistance, and visual quality in automotive interior components.
- Optimized Cooling System: The mold was designed with an advanced cooling system to ensure efficient heat dissipation. By circulating water through the mold, we could reduce the cooling time and improve the overall production speed. This directly lowers production costs while maintaining product quality.
- Pre-treatment for Durability: We applied a pre-quenching treatment to the mold, ensuring it could handle high pressures and maintain durability throughout its service life.
- Mold Manufacturing Process
With the design in hand, we moved on to creating the mold. We used high-quality materials like P20, T10A, and SKD11, all of which were pre-hardened to ensure the mold could withstand heavy use. Here’s how we handled the manufacturing:- Advanced Equipment: We used CNC machining centers, precision EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining), wire cutting, and milling machines to craft each part of the mold with extreme precision.
- Heat Treatment: After the mold parts were fabricated, we applied heat treatments to increase hardness and strengthen the mold. For molds that needed even higher wear resistance, we used vacuum ion nitriding, a process that boosts surface hardness without causing significant deformation.
- Assembly and Testing
Once the parts were manufactured, we carefully assembled the mold and ran initial tests:- Trial Runs: Multiple test injections were performed to check the mold’s ability to handle real production conditions. These trials were used to fine-tune the mold’s performance and make sure it produced consistent, high-quality parts every time.
- Final Inspection: Every part was thoroughly inspected to make sure the mold met our strict quality standards, including dimensional checks and material integrity tests.
- Post-processing for Longevity
After assembly and testing, we applied a vacuum ion nitriding treatment. This process increased the mold’s hardness while minimizing distortion, ensuring that the mold would last for more than 500,000 cycles—perfect for high-volume production runs.
